McKinney-Vento Resources
The McKinney-Vento Act provides rights and services to children and youth experiencing homelessness, which includes those who are: sharing the housing of others due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; staying in motels, trailer parks, or camp grounds due to the lack of an adequate alternative; staying in shelters or transitional housing; or sleeping in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, or similar settings.
Section 504
Section 504 of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act is a civil rights law that prohibits the discrimination based on disability.
The law applies to public elementary and secondary schools and other federally funded institutions. Under Section 504, denying a disabled student a free appropriate public education constitutes disability discrimination.

We will continue transportation services for the 2024/2025 school year.
• We will use two satellite stops, Statesville YMCA and The Boys and Girls Club, this school year for transportation services.
• Buses are limited to 23 students and one bus monitor.
• Sign ups are first come, first serve.
We want to provide this service for all students, but especially those that are in need of a ride to and from school every day.
American Renaissance School has partnered with iCATS for transportation services. Parents can sign their student(s) up to ride the bus at the beginning of each academic school year. This service is free and provided by the school. There are cluster stops around Iredell County for your convenience.
As a courtesy, please email/call your child’s teacher. Upon return, please send an excuse note in with your child. For more detailed information, please see our Student/Parent Handbook. In order to maintain a healthy environment for all our students, we ask that you follow these guidelines to assist you in determining whether you child should attend school: Please keep your child home…Until they have been fever free (less than 100° F) for 24 hours. If they have vomited/had diarrhea within the last 24 hours. If they have red conjunctiva of the eye with discharge. If they have an unexplained/undiagnosed rash. Until they have had a prescribed antibiotic in their system for 24 hours.
Each school building has a nurse that can handle your child’s medical situation. For more details, please see our Student/Parent Handbook. Please remember that school nurses can only administer medication as prescribed by your child’s doctor, including over-the-counter medications.
During times of inclement weather, we communicate our operating hours via Facebook, website, and email messages as well as through local news outlets. To view inclement weather our policy, please see our Student/Parent Handbook.
ARS uses PBIS – Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. For more information, refer to www.PBIS.org.
Parents play a vital role at ARS. Learning should continue outside of our school buildings and we expect parents to encourage learning at home. Support from our parents is essential for the teachers and the school as a whole. We have many opportunities for parents, grandparents, and other members of our extended ARS family to support our school. See the Support page for more information on these opportunities.
Please walk into the school through the front doors and sign your child out on the computer at the front desk. The receptionist will phone your child’s classroom and your student will come to the front to meet you.
We encourage you to drop your child off in car line in order to nurture independence. However, if you need to walk you child in before the school day begins, elementary students may be walked in with parents through the front doors only and accompanied all the way to their classroom. Parents may accompany middle school students to the front desk.
ARS uses MyPaymentsPlus for all payments to the school, including lunch, field trips, technology fees, and other activities. To register for MyPaymentsPlus, visit http://www.mypaymentsplus.com and click the orange Register button. Select the state, then American Renaissance School, then enter your information. Student information will be provided by the school.
ARS uses Blair Phillips Photography for all school photography needs. They offer Fall, Spring, and Elementary Class photos along with an array of collectable gifts for purchase. These photo opportunities are considered a fund raiser for the school.
For Fall Photos and Elementary Class photos, students have a required dress code of RED POLO and school uniform pants. These photo opportunities are PRE-PAY, not proof photos. Any purchased Fall Picture packages are sent home within 3 weeks of picture day. Any student who misses Fall Picture Day or who needs to have a retake done, will have an additional day to take this photo. For a student to have a retake, they must return the purchased package at the time of getting their photo taken.
Spring Picture Day is a free dress day. Please see the Uniform Policy for acceptable clothing for their photo day. There is not a makeup day for this picture. Students will receive a link to their child’s photo before purchase. Please see the school calendar for dates.
All parent photo inquires will be directed to the company. http://www.blairphillipsphotography.com/
ARS follows the National School Lunch Program which provides students the option to purchase breakfast and lunch or bring their
lunch from home.
Menus for breakfast and lunch available for purchase are offered on a monthly basis for a minimum of 7-10 days. The price for breakfast
is $3.75 and lunch is $5. Parents will be notified when menus are posted. Parents may purchase meals by logging into their MyPaymentPlus account.
ARS does not have a cafeteria, and we must preorder our meals from Iredell-Statesville Schools.
Healthy snacks should be sent from home for your student. They will not be provided by ARS.
Did you also know that you and your family may qualify for a free or reduced breakfast and lunch? Please contact Tina Farewell
at breakfast.lunch@arsnc.org, or 704.832.5603 to learn more.
Children who require an alternate menu (gluten free, peanut free, dairy free, etc.) or drink option other than milk must fill out a special
diet form to keep on file with ARS and ISS. Please notify Tina Farewell if you would like to set up an alternate menu.
For questions about the ARS Breakfast and Lunch program or to discuss forgotten meals, please contact Tina Farewell 704-832-5603.
For class parties, we encourage parents to think of healthier items. Anyone bringing in class party items will need to wait until
2:00 pm to do so.
Families that need assistance with meals, fees, etc. will need to fill out the ARS Free-Reduced Application. Email breakfast.lunch@arsnc.org
